Rename Meaher State Park

Rename Meaher State Park

The Issue

The Act Prohibiting The Deportation of Slaves was passed in 1807.
in 1860, Timothy Meaher bet some friends that they could kidnap 110 slaves and bring them home to Mobile, AL upon the ship The Clotilda.

When the ship came ashore, Meaher & his friends burned the Clotilda as evidence. The remains were just discovered in May 2019.

The area where the ship was emptied was then built up by 32 West Africans into today’s Africatown. The oldest living survivors of the trip were Matilda McCrear & Redoshi. I am suggesting either of these names to replace Meaher’s.
