Stop promoting hate, Alabama, change the name to the "Selma Bridge"

Stop promoting hate, Alabama, change the name to the "Selma Bridge"
The Issue
In Selma, Alabama there is a Bridge named after Edmund Winston Pettus, a former confederate brigadier general, Democratic U.S. Senator, and head of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan. In Selma, at the site of the bridge on March 7, 1965 hundreds of protestors in a non-violent march were attacked and beaten by the Alabama state troopers. The Bridge has now been made a historical landmark. Such an historical event and place should not memorialize a man who represents hatred. We propose changing the name to the Selma Bridge and let the name change represent progress and hope.
Please sign our petition so that we may request the Alabama Legislature to rename the bridge to the "Selma Bridge".
