Air Pollution Emergency in Mysore - Fight for Mysore’s Right to Clean Air!

Air Pollution Emergency in Mysore - Fight for Mysore’s Right to Clean Air!
The Issue
Mysore, once celebrated as one of India’s cleanest cities and a retirement haven, is now engulfed in toxic smoke from an uncontrolled fire at the sewage trash hill. Despite reports claiming the fire has been doused, ground reality proves otherwise—the fire continues to burn, releasing hazardous pollutants into the air.
Why This Matters:
Have you noticed the air smelling smoky in the evenings? Are your children or elderly family members coughing more than usual? What may seem like a small inconvenience today could turn into a full-blown health disaster tomorrow. We cannot afford to ignore this crisis until it’s too late.
Alarming Air Quality Crisis: Mysore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has shot up from a healthy 50-60 to a hazardous 90-130, making it unsafe to breathe, especially for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions.
Severe Health Risks: Residents are inhaling highly toxic smoke filled with carcinogens, burnt hydrocarbons, and microplastics. Breathing this air is equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes daily—without a choice!
Environmental Destruction: Nearly 90% of the burning waste consists of plastics, aluminum foils, and microplastics, releasing long-lasting toxins into the air and soil.
Negligence & Corruption Allegations: There are serious suspicions that this fire was deliberately set to cover up the ₹63 crore trash scam. Despite the crisis, Mysore lacks even basic fire-fighting equipment to handle such emergencies.
We Demand Immediate Action:
✅ Immediate extinguishing of the fire and strict preventive measures.
✅ Sufficient fire extinguishers and emergency response systems to prevent future disasters.
✅ Air quality monitoring, public health advisories, and immediate government intervention.
✅ A full investigation into corruption allegations and strict accountability.
✅ Stronger waste management policies to ensure Mysore remains a clean, safe city.
Mysore’s air is turning deadly, and authorities must act now! Breathing in this smoke is no different from smoking an entire pack of cigarettes every day. This is a public health emergency, and we cannot afford to stay silent.
