Aging, Sick, & Still in Captivity—Save Tina & Billy NOW!

Aging, Sick, & Still in Captivity—Save Tina & Billy NOW!
The Issue
Tina, a 59-year-old Asian elephant, is now facing a serious, potentially life-threatening infection after being moved from the Los Angeles Zoo to the Tulsa Zoo.
But this didn’t come without warning.
When Tina and Billy were relocated in 2025, people protested. Animal lovers, advocates, and community members spoke out, urging officials not to move them and to send them to a sanctuary instead—places designed to give elephants space, peace, and proper care in their final years.
Those concerns were ignored.
Now, Tina is sick. Zoo officials say treatment options are limited due to her age and condition. While she is still active, her diagnosis carries the risk of becoming life-threatening.
This is exactly what people feared.
Tina and Billy have spent decades in captivity. They have lived side by side for years. Sanctuaries are available that are willing to take them in—places where they could live with more freedom and dignity.
For animal lovers, this moment matters.
We cannot undo the decision that was made. But we can act now.
We are calling on the Tulsa Zoo and the Los Angeles Zoo to transfer Tina and Billy to a qualified elephant sanctuary where they can receive specialized care and live out their remaining years in a more natural, humane environment.
Tina deserves more than to spend her final years in confinement—especially when there was another option all along.
Time matters. Compassion matters. And it’s not too late to do the right thing.
Sign to help move Tina and Billy to a sanctuary and give them the dignity they deserve.
