Three FBI agents who worked on the investigation into Donald Trump have just been fired. All three were involved in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s probe into Trump’s handling of classified documents and efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Now that Trump is back in power, it looks like these agents are being punished for doing their jobs.

This should worry everyone—no matter your politics.

Federal agents shouldn’t have to fear being fired just for investigating someone in power. If this was retaliation, it sets a dangerous example: investigate a president, and you could lose your career.

That’s not how justice is supposed to work.

The FBI and Department of Justice need to explain these firings. And Congress needs to find out if laws or internal rules were broken. If the firings were political, the agents deserve to be reinstated, and protections must be put in place to stop this from happening again.

If we want justice to be fair and independent, we have to speak up now.
