AGAINST THE REMOVAL OF THE FILIPINO SUBJECT ON COLLEGE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Filipino is one of the two official language in the philippines, it is the country’s main language and main lingua franca. The Supreme Court upheld as constitutional the order of the Commission of Higher Education to remove mandatory Filipino subjects from the college curriculum.According to Prof. Patrocinio, Villafuerte, “Removing Filipino as a subject in the General Education Curriculum is not just a local issue


It is a moral issue that goes against the integrity of our race” which is aligned in our advocacy that we’re going to discuss. The Filipino subject not just help us to identify or preserve cultures, filipino subject also provides us a language skills that will help to improve a certain individuals skills,  being able to know this information is essential to a person whos filipino, language skills that provide us to how to talk formally or informative.


According to HUMSS 11 SKINNER many students or filipino people are against the removal of filipino subject, someone stated “we own filipino” this language is manifestation of our ideals and aspirations, it consists of words not found in other languages such as kilig, it embodies the culture we have as filipinos.


For what else did Dr Jose Rizal and many other heroes who gave their lives fight for the Philippine nation against various conquering countries if we don’t protect our own language. In the cultural preservation, the Filipino subject focuses on the language and culture of the Philippines, and some argue that its exclude resulting in cultural genocide. In addition,removing mandatory Filipino subjects  in college can be a factor in killing the language.


The Filipino subject holds a vital role in the educational system of the Philippines, serving not only as a medium of instruction but also as a vital component of national identity and cultural preservation. In an increasingly globalized world, where languages and cultures often blend and sometimes fade, the importance of maintaining and promoting the Filipino language cannot be overstated. This petition is made to gather people and provide them with the various reasons why the Filipino subject should remain an integral part of the curriculum in the Philippines. 


Moreover,filipino subject is part of the school  curriculum, this where the student learns about filipino language, history, information, etc. Filipino subject is like just the symbol of national identity, filipino subject teaches national language or the primary language  and preserving the Identity of nation, with this, presenting a certain history and information proves and give keys to identify the identity of nation.“While a people preserves its language; it preserves the mark of liberty.” As Dr. Jose P Rizal quote. Language is the key to our communication. Not just that, we also serve this as our unity and freedom that we Filipinos and our heroes who fought for during the times of colonization throughout the centuries. However Dropping filipino subject, it's like shutting the door to our own culture and identity. By removing this subject we're giving an unfair advantage to those who already have access and source or opportunities in learning.


The Filipino subject is our pride for it does not only apply to our studies but in blood, language, and culture. To be a proud Filipino, It is important to learn more about Filipino subjects, because it branches to a lot of states such as, National heritage which portraits values and sens of belongingness towards our country. Cultural Heritage is the act of understanding Philippine history, literature, and culture, inorder for us to understand how important it is to maintain the purity of our culture. Language skills provide the help to be proficient in our native language- the Filipino language. Giving value does not just mean we have to keep on studying  about it, but it also includes that we have to keep this subject to be present up till the so-called future so that the next generation may know their identity and who or what they stand for. If the removal of this so-called Filipino Subject  may be implemented. What about us and the next generation?
