Against 50 years Moratorium on Mining in Palawan

Against 50 years Moratorium on Mining in Palawan
The Issue
I am writing to express my concern about the 50 year ban on mining in Palawan. While I understand the importance of protecting the environment, I believe this ban will have negative effects on the people and the economy of Palawan
Here are my reasons:
1. Job Losses: Mining provides jobs for many people in Palawan. A ban will hurt local businesses
2. Responsible Mining: with modern technology, mining can be done in a way that doesn't harm environment. We need rules to make sure it’s done safely, not a complete ban
3. Economic Growth : Mining helps support the economy. A 50 year ban will stop the county from benefiting from those resource and slow down national development
4. Learning Facilities : The operation of schools in Palawan is at risk due to the 50 year ban. Many educational institutions rely on support from mining corporations, which could cease if mining operations are halted. This situation raises concerns about the sustainability of educational resources and access for local communities.
My family has lived in Rio Tuba since I was a child, and my mother works for RTNFI. Mining plays a vital role in our daily lives, starting with my parents' salaries, which support our education. The corporation also contributes to our learning facilities, providing us with free water and electricity as part of their benefits package. This demonstrates how responsible mining can provide additional support beyond just wages. At our school, we participate in activities that promote mining, such as tree planting and cleanup drives.
I urge you to reconsider this ban and create a plan that protocts both the environment and the people of palawan
Thank you for your time.
