I was a nursing sister for 52 years of my life. I have made UIF contributions every month that I worked and I have never claimed. I was put on retirement at the age of 76 and I thought I would get my UIF every month but that is not the case. I registered for UIF with all the required documents on 1st March 2022. I have only received 2 payments in 6 months.

I speak to the call center 3 times a week and just get told that it has escalated. I have also written 75 emails which has obviously not helped either. I am now 3 months behind on rent and have stopped taking prescription medicines as I can no longer afford them. I have no other form of income and am relying on this UIF for at least 8 months until I can apply to SASSA for an old age grant.

Please sign and share my petition demand Minister Thulas Nxesi and UIF Commissioner Teboho Maruping clear the backlog at UIF and release payouts to all UIF contributors who have submitted claims.
