After 26 Years, Juvenile Lifer Deserves a Second Chance: Free Patrick Peterson

After 26 Years, Juvenile Lifer Deserves a Second Chance: Free Patrick Peterson
The Issue
Patrick A. Peterson he spent more than 26 years in prison for a crime committed as a teenager. He has grown into a mature, accountable, and community-minded man who has long since paid his debt to society. We call for Patrick's release at the earliest lawful opportunity–either through his parole hearing in April 2026, a sentence modification, or upcoming juvenile lifer reforms in Wisconsin.
At the age of 17, he was a juvenile when arrested. Brain development research has shown that children lack the same judgment and impulse control as adults. Modern science and law now recognize that youth are uniquely capable of rehabilitation. Patrick's life has changed as he has changed; he is not the child who was sentenced decades ago.
He has served more than sufficient time. Twenty-six years exceeds what research shows as necessary for public safety. Continuing to confine him serves no purpose but punishment for punishment's sake and twenty-six years is more than enough.
He has proven rehabilitation. Patrick has completed programs, graduated from college, volunteered community service by training dogs into service animals, mentored others, maintained faith and family ties, and shown consistent growth and accountability. His record demonstrates genuine reform and readiness for reentry.
Redemption and reintegration benefits the community. Releasing Patrick allows him to reunite with family, work, give back, and mentor at-risk youth. His story can help prevent others from making similar mistakes.
Fairness demands a second look. Laws evolve, and justice evolves with them. When someone sentenced as a child demonstrates change and growth, they deserve a real chance at freedom.
What we ask:
Sign this petition supporting Patrick's release. Share it with others who believe in justice, rehabilitation, and second chances. Urge Wisconsin decision makers to support reforms that recognize human growth and redemption.
Patrick Peterson has served his time. He has grown, changed, and earned his freedom. Justice now means release—not more years lost.
