Revoke ICHF Events' AEO membership due to integrity issue over "China censorship"
The Issue
Cake International, a cake making competition by ICHF Events, has recently disqualified an entry by a contestant from Hong Kong. The organiser, under pressured from a group of Chinese government supporters, wrongfully disqualified the entry due to "content and message being offensive". While there was nothing offensive about the message in the eyes of people from free societies, this group of contestants from China cannot tolerate the idea of freedom of expression.
Unfortunately the organiser chose to aid their efforts of political censorship. Realising the mistake which backfired on social media, ICHF chose to make an entirely false statement on their Facebook page, citing the reason for disqualification being the entry not conforming to size requirement. However the message sent to the banned contestant, which reads "the content and message have been viewed as offensive and led to complaints from attendees", revealed the true motivation. The issue has now been widely reported by reputable international media including the Quartz, The Telegraph, The Guardian, New York Post, Daily Mail and the BBC News.
This blatant lie shows a profound lack of integrity of this organisation when organising event. I believe this is in breach of AEO's code of conduct, which requires members to first and foremost make accurate statements with regards to any event.
I therefore ask you to revoke ICHF Events' membership to AEO, to safeguard the reputation of your organisation and maintain a high quality member base.
