Why this petition matters

Started by Emma Campbell

We have come together to help change and influence the current CWELCC Agreement for Ontario. Although we support this plan for parents, it has left Private Child Care Owners in Ontario concerned, worried and unsure of what this means for our businesses and the recognition and stability of our staff. Our teachers are dedicated individuals who work extremely hard within all of our classrooms and deserve to be recognized with better pay. We have built our businesses from the ground up with our own time, resources and capital. Owners have continued with their businesses with the hope of retirement. The loss of autonomy is terrifying and now is the time!

We want to gain the support from the Province of Ontario for Independent Licensed Child Care Providers representing the Small Business Entrepreneurs who have invested their own time, resources and capital in the Child Care Industry. We are a diverse group of owners and teachers ( mostly female) which seek to have equitable funding to be viable and sustainable and provide better wages for our teachers so that they do not leave our field.

We believe in providing Quality Care and Education and we are grateful and recognize that CWELCC is helping families with fee's but we feel CWELCC in Ontario does not address Parent Incomes – wealthy parents benefit equal to poorer parents.

One of our concerns is staff wages. The wage floor is only $18.00 including the wage enhancements so what happens to those staff already at $18.00. It means they can not get a raise !

Another concern is that they are only recognizing RECE’S. What happens to Director Approval staff and Montessori staff. They are not recognizing other philosophies.

They are also asking for our P&L and they are going to determine what is profit and what is eligible.
Right now it’s all about educating not only staff but families and other operators.

Sign this petition to let the Newly Elected Government know that we need to re-look at the CWELCC and work together to move forward to benefit Parents, Owners and Staff. 10,000 signatures will get the attention we need and deserve from the Government, Parliament and local Municipalities.
