Advocate for US laws supporting UN 17 SDGs

The Issue

As a concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by the lack of progress the United States has made towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN 17 SDGs). These goals, which promote health, equality, sustainability, peace, and justice, have been acknowledged globally, yet our country is lagging behind. This is not just an issue for the federal government; it is crucial for change to happen at local and state levels as well.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The goals encompass a wide range of issues that affect every aspect of our lives, from clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, to reduced inequalities and climate action. However, despite the urgency and importance, the United States lacks comprehensive laws that align with these objectives.

According to the Sustainable Development Report 2022, the United States is ranked 41st globally in SDG performance. This is a concerning statistic for a nation that has the capability and resources to lead the way in sustainable development. The lack of legal frameworks supporting these goals reflects a gap in our commitment to global welfare and the future of our planet.

The time for action is now. We must urge our local, state, and federal governments to implement policies and regulations that directly address and support the 17 SDGs. This includes investing in sustainable infrastructure, adopting green technologies, implementing educational programs on sustainability, and enacting legislation that promotes social equity and environmental protection.

Our leaders need to prioritize these goals and understand the intersectional impact they have on the nation’s socioeconomic fabric and environmental health. By doing so, they will not only be contributing to the global effort but also ensuring a brighter, sustainable future for all Americans.

Sign this petition to demand that our government takes responsibility and adopts laws that are in accordance with the UN 17 SDGs at every level of governance. Together, we can make a difference and hold those in power accountable for the well-being of our society and planet. Your signature can lead to a ripple of change that aligns the United States with a sustainable and equitable global vision. Act now for a better tomorrow!
