Advocate for Urgent Reforms to NSW Mental Health System

Advocate for Urgent Reforms to NSW Mental Health System

The issue

Through personal experience, I have come to understand the profound importance of dedicated psychiatric care in managing my chronic mental health illness - Bipolar Disorder. I owe my life to psychiatrists and mental health professionals whose commitment and expertise have pulled me back from the brink during times of extreme crisis. Despite the invaluable service they provide, they're currently caught within a failing system that largely compromises their ability to deliver critical, life-saving care.

Today, New South Wales confronts a looming crisis in the mental health sector. We stand on the precipice of losing more than 200 public hospital psychiatrists, a staggering 77% of the state's psychiatric workforce, due to proposed resignations. This crippling blow directly threatens the lifeline of critical care for countless vulnerable patients, – their lives, quite literally, hang in the balance.

This alarming trend epitomizes a system in severe need of reform, one that currently fails to adequately compensate psychatrists and consequently threatens to leave its patients perilously underserved. As we strive for a system that cares for its people effectively, it is imperative that we advocate for systemic change, which includes better pay for these professionals.

By signing this petition, we're voicing our urgent need for reform to government officials. We're advocating for a robust, resilient mental health services system that supports psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, enabling them to continue their crucial work without threat of a mass exodus. I know the life-changing, life-saving value of these services, and I implore you to stand with me in this fight for change. Please, sign this petition today; our resilience depends on it.
