I, along with many of my friends, have always struggled with the spelling of the word “tongue.” It's a common issue that we face daily. We believe it would be easier and more intuitive if it were spelled as "tounge." This might seem like a small issue, but spelling can have significant impacts on learning and communication. According to the National Institute for Literacy, spelling difficulties can hinder writing fluency, reduce the quality and quantity of what students write, and lead to negative attitudes towards writing (National Institute for Literacy). By changing this one word’s spelling from “tongue” to “tounge,” we could remove one barrier in our language that causes unnecessary confusion.
