As a resident of Cebu and an animal lover, I have personally witnessed the joy and benefits that animals bring into our lives. They offer companionship, love, emotional support and even promote healthier lifestyles through regular exercise. These sentient beings also teach us important life lessons such as responsibility, empathy, and patience. However, it deeply saddens me to see that not all animals are treated with the respect they deserve.

Animal abuse is a prevalent issue in our community that often goes unreported due to lack of awareness or fear of reprisal. This must change. According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), there has been a significant increase in reported animal abuse cases over recent years - a trend we cannot ignore.

We need stricter laws against animal abuse in Cebu. We need better enforcement of these laws by local authorities and more support for organizations working tirelessly towards preventing this issue.
