Advocate for reduction of helicopters noise pollution in Myrtle Beach

The Issue

I am a resident of Myrtle Beach, SC, and I bring into attention the growing impact that noise pollution from private recreational  helicopters is having on our community. At this time the frequency of helicopters above the shores of Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas including neighboring State Parks have significantly increased to almost every 2 minutes, impacting quietude, and relaxation of tourists and residents.  When they fly over the ocean the noise is more reduced than we they fly over the shores, when they are disturbing. Our environment needs to be protected against intense noise and pollution for the preservation of touristic and residential rights for quietude, sleep, relaxation,  health and well being of natural habitats in the long term.
Noise pollution has been linked to numerous health problems including stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing loss and sleep disruption. According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), excessive noise seriously harms human health and interferes with people’s daily activities at school, at work or during leisure time. It can disturb sleep leading to serious health implications.
Private helicopters are a significant source of this harmful noise pollution. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that helicopter traffic has increased significantly over recent years across many parts of the United States including Myrtle Beach. This increase is causing an unacceptable level of disturbance to our tourism quality and community life.
We call upon local , environmental and state authorities in Myrtle Beach and South Carolina to regulate air traffic from private helicopters more effectively in order to reduce noise levels. We also urge them to conduct regular assessments on environmental and public health impacts caused by such air traffic.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving our right for quietude,  relaxation and protecting public health against excessive helicopter noise pollution.
