Advocate For Permanent Ban On Reddit App
The Issue
This petition is personal, born out of a friend's traumatic experience on the Reddit platform. Regretfully, my friend's past - the details of her personal records and previous jobs - was uncouthly displayed for the world to see. She has endured consistent daily mockery on this app. These Reddit bullies have gone so far as to display pictures of family members while creating lies about them as well. This needs to stop! A person's personal life should be kept private and off the internet, unless they themselves, decide to share it. I am fighting for everyone that has been a victim of cyber bullying on Reddit. Apps should not allow a person's private details of their life to be displayed!
Reddit is notorious for having a toxic environment. It is a platform wherein private information is ruthlessly divulged, reputations destroyed, and comments filled with disgust about someone's appearance, personal life or career, become common threads. I worry about children making fake accounts and being exposed to this as well.
According to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, victims of cyberbullying are more likely to suffer from depression and think about suicide. The internet should be a safe space to express ourselves, not an arena for digital torment.
This is not an isolated incident, but a persistent problem. Reddit as a platform is profoundly dangerous. It is tainted with numerous instances of cyberbullying leading to considerable mental health damages - and in extreme cases, it has caused some people to take their own life.
We uphold the view that Reddit's current measures are gravely insufficient. It is our moral obligation to advocate for platforms that foster positive, respectful digital interaction. We, therefore, call for the permanent ban of the Reddit app.
We must protect the vulnerable, uphold respect for privacy, and foster healthy digital communities. Cyberspace should be a realm of exploration and positive interaction, not a source of harm and despair. Please sign this petition and stand in solidarity with the victims of cyberbullying, promoting online respect and compassion for all.
