Advocate for Nontraditional Votes: Write-in Terry Crews / Camacho '24
The Issue
Like many Americans, I find myself disillusioned with the options presented to us during election seasons. Are these really our options??? The recurring disappointment has led me to consider alternative ways to spotlight the flaws and biases of our voting system. This petition is thus a call to action for making a statement by means of a nontraditional vote - writing in Terry Crews.
For those of you who've seen the satirical film Idiocracy (2006), directed by Mike Judge, you may have had a good laugh but also identified some critical underlying messages about our modern society. The movie propels an average Joe into the future, where he's deemed the smartest man on Earth - amidst a thoroughly dysfunctional society and a celebrity President. Not so far off from how things have played out.
Why Terry Crews, you ask? He portrayed the unforgettable role of President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho in Idiocracy. His character is absurd, passionate, fragile under the veil of strength, universally loved, and a total dingus.. yet somehow till more sui8ted for presidency and leadership than the options we've been offered lately. I see this as a playful way to parody our political reality show.. I mean system.
*As a side note: I wanted to suggest writing in the fictional character's name from the movie, but I'm not too sure there will be enough space on the ballot! 'Terry Crews' might be more practical in this way. Comment and let us know what you think!*
This petition won’t miraculously fix the long-standing issues in our electoral system. However, it serves as a fun, yet impactful way to illuminate them. By choosing to write in Terry Crews / Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, we can evoke conversation, encourage participating voters to break free from the constraints of the rigid two-party system, and hopefully promote some much-needed reforms. Our country was founded on questioning the norm and status quo, so let's go!
