The Issue

Growing up on a farm with many animals and with a deep passion for animals and an unwavering commitment to their well-being, my dream has always been to combine my love for the animal kingdom with my professional life. As an aspiring vet tech, I fully comprehend the value of every living creature and the joy they bring to our lives.

Tragically, countless healthy and adoptable animals are needlessly euthanized in shelters due to overcrowding and lack of resources. It's time to challenge this norm by transforming all animal shelters into no-kill sanctuaries where every life is valued and protected.

According to the ASPCA, approximately 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized each year in the U.S. alone—390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats. This should be considered as an act of animal cruelty and is comparable to genocide. These staggering numbers are preventable with changes in shelter policies, increased funding, and community support. By adopting no-kill practices, shelters can focus on rehoming animals, providing medical care, and promoting spaying/neutering programs to manage overpopulation. If approved, we can even use our government funded resources to build animal sanctuaries for both cats and dogs as a simple solution to euthanizing unadopted animals and over population in shelters.

Other cities like Austin, Texas, and Kansas City, Missouri, have embraced no-kill policies with remarkable success. These initiatives have drastically reduced euthanasia rates and improved the quality of life for shelter animals. With collaborative efforts from city councils, local governments, and communities, we can replicate these successes nationwide.

To achieve this, we must urge lawmakers to allocate more funding toward animal shelters, support legislation promoting no-kill practices, and foster community engagement to ensure every animal finds a loving home. Signing this petition is a step towards creating a nation where no healthy or adoptable animal is needlessly put to death. Let this be our legacy of compassion and responsible stewardship of our fellow creatures.

Join me in advocating for policies that protect and honor the lives of all animals. Sign this petition to demand nationwide adoption of no-kill shelter practices and help us save the lives of millions of innocent animals. Together, we can create a compassionate future for our furry friends.
