As a resident of Manila, I am deeply concerned about the escalating effects of global warming. Our city, like many others, is feeling the heat - quite literally. The Philippines is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change and we are already experiencing its impacts with increased intensity and frequency of storms, floods and heatwaves.

Planting trees can be a significant step towards mitigating these effects. Trees absorb CO2, one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, thus helping cool our planet. Moreover, urban green spaces provide shade and help reduce temperatures in cities by up to 8 degrees Celsius (source: World Bank).

Manila has an opportunity to become a leader in this area by implementing large-scale tree planting initiatives across our city's parks and streets. This would not only contribute significantly towards fighting global warming but also improve air quality for us residents.
