The Issue

As workers in Nova Scotia, we represent various sectors, from healthcare to skilled trades, finance, hospitality, and more. Our commitment to the growth and prosperity of this province is unwavering. However, the reduced quota for the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) and AIP has placed our futures in jeopardy. With work permits expiring in 2025 and 2026, the extended waiting times for NSNP and AIP approvals may force us to return to our home countries, leaving critical gaps in Nova Scotia’s workforce.

Nova Scotia faces persistent labor shortages. In healthcare, the need for compassionate and skilled professionals is evident. Our hospitals and care facilities are straining to meet the needs of an aging population. The skilled trades, essential for infrastructure development and maintenance, are equally affected. These sectors, along with finance and hospitality, form the backbone of Nova Scotia’s economy and require a steady influx of skilled workers to thrive.

The current NSNP and AIP quota does not align with these needs. Statistics from Nova Scotia's own labour market reports indicate that the province requires thousands of new workers annually to sustain growth and service demand. Increasing the NSNP and AIP quota is not just a benefit to foreign workers but an essential step to ensure economic stability and growth.

A significant increase in the annual NSNP and AIP quota would alleviate the processing delays and allow us to continue contributing to Nova Scotia’s dynamic economy. It would prevent disruption in essential services and maintain the momentum towards long-term prosperity. We urge the Honourable Premier of Nova Scotia, the Minister of Immigration, and the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration and Population Growth to recognize the pressing need for reform.

By signing this petition, you support the call for a brighter, more sustainable future for Nova Scotia. Please lend your voice to this important cause.
