In Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, Philippines, the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) are not adequately addressed by current government laws. This petition seeks to urge our lawmakers to review and amend these laws for the betterment of PWDs in our community. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, approximately 1.44 million people or 1.57% of the total population have a disability (PSA, 2010). However, despite this significant number, there is a lack of comprehensive support systems and policies that cater specifically to their needs.

We believe that it is essential for our government to enact more inclusive laws that provide PWDs with equal opportunities in education, employment, healthcare services among others. These changes will not only benefit individuals but also contribute positively towards building an inclusive society where everyone has equal rights and opportunities.
