Advocate for Disability Rights, Accessibility, and Fair Treatment at Bexley Residences

Advocate for Disability Rights, Accessibility, and Fair Treatment at Bexley Residences
The Issue
As a disabled person a veteran and a member of the Bexley community in McKinney, TX, a serious concern has arisen. The region presents unjustifiable struggles for disabled individuals, forcing us to mobilize unreasonably far to access ramps for handicapped spots. Additionally, many areas lack completed or clear pathways, limiting our ability to move freely.
One of the most distressing issues is the unjustified denial to access common areas with Emotional Support Animals (ESAs), a predicament faced by many of us. This clearly violates the Fair Housing Amendments Act (FHA) standards calling ESAs not just pets, but necessary aids for residents.
Moreover, many residents are facing fines for renters coverage documented several years prior even when it's current. Infestation treatments for pets, particularly for roaches, do not have a proper plan leading to an unhygienic environment. This lack of planning is gravely affecting the living conditions of the residents. Additionally, a pervasive culture of disrespect, assumption-based harassment is causing a major impact on our living environment.
Therefore, we call for (1) Protecting and enforcing disability rights and promoting accessibility, (2) Implementing and upholding FHA standards for ESAs, (3) An updated and comprehensive tenant handbook, (4) A formal plan for pest treatments, and (5) An end to resident harassment, demanding respect and just treatment for all. It is only through these measures we can create a liveable, just, and respectful community for everyone at Bexley. Please, sign our petition; help us advocate for disability rights, respect, and fair treatment.
