Advocate for adjustment of status for Haitian TPS holders

Advocate for adjustment of status for Haitian TPS holders
The Issue
As the Senior Pastor of an Haitian Church, Gospel Assembly-Queens, situated in the vibrant heart of New York City, a Director of the Federation of Haitian Protestant Churches Overseas (FEHAPCO), former Chaplain of the Department of Veterans Affairs, I have been a witness to the resilience, fortitude, and community spirit of many Haitian immigrants. These individuals, who have contributed significantly to our neighborhoods, are now at a critical juncture. Like all Haitian pastors, my heart is heavy with concern for these members of our community who face potential separation from their families and the uncertainty of their futures if immediate action is not taken.
The United States has long been a beacon of hope and a land of opportunity for those seeking refuge from turmoil and devastation. Many Haitian immigrants have found a temporary safe haven in this great nation under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS). However, the temporary nature of TPS leaves thousands of Haitian individuals lives in limbo. These are hard-working, law-abiding, taxpaying community members who are vital to the social and economic fabric of our society.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, tens of thousands of Haitian nationals benefit from TPS. However, with uncertainty looming over their status, they are unable to plan their lives, invest in their futures, or contribute fully to society due to the fear of deportation. This is not just an immigration issue, but a humanitarian one. It is time for us to call upon our lawmakers to provide a pathway to permanent residency and ultimately, citizenship, for these individuals.
By adjusting the status of Haitian TPS holders, we are not merely changing their legal standing; we are acknowledging their contributions and recognizing their rights to live free from fear. We urge Congress and the Department of Homeland Security to take the necessary steps towards comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for Haitian TPS holders.
Your signature can make a difference. Stand with us as we advocate for justice, compassion, and the right of every human being to live without fear. Let us remind our leaders that the strength of a nation lies in its ability to embrace diversity and extend compassion towards those who seek refuge and a better life. Please sign this petition and lend your voice to this critical cause.
