Advocate for 7-12 at both schools. Tell JSD to stop the consolidation

The Issue

Please stand with me in asking the Juneau Board of Education to reevaluate the consolidation vote and give consideration to Option #6, the 7-12 model at both TMHS and JDHS. Option number #6, a model proven to work and be effective, will

Close Marie Drake, Floyd Dryden, and the district office, returning those to CBJ; effectively having the same budget reduction as the current model;

Give students and parents a choice;

Increase athletic opportunities;

Reduce the number school transitions students will need to make; reducing transitions has proven to reduce high school dropout rates;

Reduce parking issues.

Thunder Mountain High School was built in part to decrease our district’s dropout rate.  Since the opening of Thunder Mountain High School, Juneau’s dropout rate has decreased and is continues to decrease. Why go backwards?

In a time when educational resources are stretched thin, it is crucial that we optimize our school systems for maximum benefit. Option 6 does just this by efficiently utilizing existing structures while still providing flexibility for students' individual needs.

Please join me in signing this petition as this is a solution that can positively impact all of Juneau’s students.  Please support the adoption of option 6 in our school district – let us give every student the chance they deserve to excel both academically and athletically.
