Stuart Baker’s persona “Unknown Hinson” is meant to be a parody of the most horrible type of insensitive, bigoted, uneducated, backwoods musician. His rants are comedy, and mean the exact opposite of what they say. Adult swim should know this, and their rush to part ways with him showed extremely poor judgement, as his statements themselves are a form of activism. I am an African-American and a long-time fan of Mr. Baker in both music and television, and consider him a strong supporter of minority causes. These actions are very hypocritical of Adult Swim, as many of their scrips deal in the same theme of parody, in pointing out the absurdity of uneducated bigoted beliefs. Comedy is built on cynicism and the highest form of this is practiced by Mr. Baker. His music routinely deals in misogyny, bigotry, and backwoods, alcohol and drug fueled spousal abuse. Not one of Mr. Baker’s fans believe for one second that he supports such a lifestyle. Many so-called fans immediately demanded his firing with out any knowledge of what was actually transpiring. They obviously did not follow the career of Mr. Baker, and his desire to stay in the character of Unknown Hinson at all times. We demand that Squidbillies immediately rehire Mr. Baker, as he is both invaluable and irreplaceable.
