ATTN ENGLEWOOD RESIDENTS!!!!!

Colors have the profound ability to unite a community and instill a sense of pride. For me, maroon and white are not just colors; they represent the vibrant heart of Englewood, NJ, where I have grown up and continue to reside. They resonate with the essence of this unique city, its history, and its people.

In our schools, maroon and white have long represented unity and spirit. By adopting these colors officially for the city, it symbolizes a commitment to supporting our public schools and fostering a sense of belonging for all residents. Schools are at the heart of any community, providing education, fostering social cohesion, and representing a hope for the future. These colors stand for the perseverance and collective achievements of the students, athletes, and educators who strive every day to add to Englewood's legacy.

Currently, Englewood does not have official city colors, creating a missed opportunity to solidify our identity and strengthen community ties. Cities across the U.S., such as Los Angeles with blue and gold or Chicago with its famous red, white, and blue, have harnessed city colors to rally their citizens and promote a sense of unity.

By petitioning to establish maroon and white as Englewood’s official city colors, we not only pay homage to the vibrant spirit of our public schools but also create a visual symbol of unity. The adoption of these colors by the city government would show recognition and support for our educational institutions and affirm civic pride.

I invite you to join me in this mission to bring more unity to our city, support our schools, and embrace the proud identity of Englewood. Sign this petition to request the city of Englewood, NJ to formally adopt maroon and white as its official colors.

The Decision Makers

Michael Wildes
Englewood City Mayor
Responded
Hello, this is Michael Wildes, Mayor of Englewood, New Jersey. Thank you to everyone who is supporting the petition to adopt maroon and white as Englewood’s official city colors. I believe honoring these colors is a laudable and noble gesture that supports our students, schools, and shared identity. Often in Englewood, maroon and white have symbolized unity and pride—they have long represented spirit and cohesion in our schools and community. That said, I want to clarify how decisions like this move forward: while I fully support the spirit behind this effort, such matters are ultimately decided by City Council through official resolutions or ordinances. Under our city charter, my role is limited to veto power and tie-breaking votes, but I am actively paying attention to the conversation around this proposal. If City Council introduces a resolution to formally adopt these colors, I commit to reviewing it thoughtfully and engaging in the process. Until then, your voices and input are exactly the kind of civic engagement that strengthens our democracy. Thank you for proposing something that celebrates our schools and brings us together. —Michael J. Wildes, Mayor, City of Englewood
