Adopt 'Charter of Peace' for a Safer, Inclusive Pakistan
The Issue
Pakistan has achieved considerable success in its counter-terrorism endeavors in recent years, leading to an improved overall security environment but we have not fully addressed the extremist ideologies and other factors feeding into terrorism. Pak Institute for Peace Studies' (PIPS) decade-long efforts of promoting peace and harmony, involved regional level consultations with key stakeholders based on which a document was designed titled Charter of Peace. The Charter of Peace includes recommendations on bringing sustainable peace in Pakistan. The Charter of Peace has been built in light of the Charter of United Nation and other global and regional peace initiatives endorsed by Pakistan. It can be adopted as a comprehensive policy document that guides Pakistani policymakers on key changes and main focus areas to connect Pakistan’s efforts for peace with the established global norms and policies. This Charter of Peace will promote values derived from the constitution, including enhancing constitutional literacy among the people, particularly among the youth.
