Today is day 1 of Eid, and while Ramadan has come to a close, this issue did not.

These two graphics explain both why this matters and what we are asking for.

The first addresses one of the most common misconceptions: public schools do not get to ignore students’ religious rights.

The second shows the kind of clear, neutral plan we are asking District 71 to put in place going forward.

We may not have gotten the clarity families needed during these 30 days, but we can still make sure something better is created from it.

This is not just about Ramadan and Eid.

A clear, consistent policy benefits all students with sincerely held religious practices and observances, and gives families and staff the guidance they should have had all along.

We are now at 208 signatures. Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, and supported this effort so far.

The Board of Education meeting is on March 24 at 6pm, and if we want to make a meaningful impact, now is the time to push.

Please:

  • Share the petition
  • Send it to friends and family
  • Join us at the Board meeting in person to show your support

Every voice matters.

And remember, each adult in a household can sign individually.

We may not be able to change what happened this Ramadan, but we can still make sure District 71 does better going forward.
