Harmony should support ASL (American Sign Language) classes because it is a skill you could need in the real world. Knowing how to speak and being able to understand ASL could be a key point when students from Harmony apply for scholarships, colleges, etc. In this way, Harmony would become a more noticed and stand out school from any other charter school in the area, giving us more publicity and a wider range of students to work with. If our school supports ASL we would be opening the door to an even more diverse body of  students and teachers, allowing all of us to experience and learn about more cultures.Although people that are deaf or hard of hearing may only make up a small percentage of the United States' population, it is still a form of communication that is needed in everyday situations. Continuing to increase the number of people in our community who can speak and understand sign language could help everyone. Those of us who want to have careers in fields that deal with many different people with many different backgrounds could find that sign language is a key point in their lives, they could work with more people and, because they are able to work with more people become more successful members of society. Students that are able to learn sign language would not only be able to learn how to communicate better with others, but they would also learn how to read and understand a person's body language. 

Supporting this petition would allow for our school to grow and expand in a variety of different ways. Our school would become exposed to new cultures and new ideas by creating an ASL class. Students that participate in this class could find that ASL could become a large path of their lives, whether that be in a career or family related, this class could better prepare us for our futures. Harmony would also become a more noticed school because, not only would we have an exceptional educational environment, we would have a new aspects that most other schools have failed to see, making us just that much better of a choice than other nearby schools.
