Re-open Amity University and stop encouraging online classes and exams
The Issue
14 March 2020 will always be marked as an important date in the lives of Amity University Students as well as others. We were asked to vacate our hostels, PGs and go back to our hometown. Little did we know that this 15 day break will extend till 8 months and in no time, we will have to endure prolonged hours of Online classes in the name of "education". Learning is an important part of any student's life and our system has failed to acknowledge this. Why? Here's is a list of problems faced by the students, and why we want our college to Re-open. We also want that encouragement of Online exams and stringent hours of Online Classes should be stopped, because it's not helping and everyone knows it.
1. Alot of students are still living in the confinement of their homes, it's difficult to study at home now and there is a lot of net work problem. Many non local hostellers are also from the regions which don’t have good network and it is difficult for them to get actual learning. A stable network is not available even in metro cities and students in our esteemed university hail from all over India.
2. Many technical courses are based on practical learning in labs and a huge part of fees is for that only, but labs are not available in online learning. This is really compromising on student’s practical learning which is a thing to worry about because all of them are expected to work in field in future which is more than just completing lab manual.
3. Mental health of students have been affected world wide because of online learning. This can be avoided because our university have the required campus. Coming to college for the sake of Mental health is crucial and peer interaction is vital in a student's life.
4. Online studies are failing. Atleast the way they are being used now, so a better alternative would have be to utilize the campus.
5. Online exams are going to affect us badly because many non hostelers don’t have a stable network. Infact a continuous guaranteed stable network should be seen as an exception. It is possible that students may have network issue during exam and it may affect their performance and GPA.
7.So many of us have generated health problems and eye problems due to long stringent hours of screen timing. Not only mental but physical health has also been affected.
8. Too many assignments assigned perhaps because administration thinks we have more time at our hand just because we are at home which is false. Most of the students are overburdened.
9. Amity is famous for its infrastructure so it is to time to use it in this exceptional situation because online classes come nowhere near classroom interaction that we all deserve. Now that the Government has permitted Colleges to reopen and submit their SOP. Why isn't Amity reacting and How can the Administration take the right away from us?
The amount of pressure that Amity is putting on the students is beyond measurable and all we do is - eat, attend classes and repeat. Yes, we are not able to sleep as well. This is affecting our Mental and Physical health. There is no sense of time left for the students, Last year students are not able to prepare for their Higher education entrance exams, or any other competitive exams. Students who plan on working are not able to perform well in internships because of the long duration of online classes and never ending college work. We are asked to study, make assignments, do household chores, spend time with our family members and also participate in uncalled for events, all at the same time. Students are not machines, We are Humans.
