Reduce Tuition for Online Classes at CUA
Reduce Tuition for Online Classes at CUA
On July 31st, 2020, the Administration of Catholic University blindsided its student body with the announcement that only freshmen would be permitted back on campus in the fall. This email came with no warning, only a week before students were set to begin returning and only a day before the first payment deadline, leaving the Classes of '21, '22, and '23 stranded with little economic recourse. As of writing, these students have been provided no further information about tuition rates or the logistics of another online semester, as the University office has conveniently closed early for the weekend.
In the face of this callous disregard for its most committed students, we are demanding that the University significantly decrease tuition rates for all sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have been abruptly denied access to on-campus resources. This is in addition to the complete remission of all housing, dining, facilities, and other related fees that will no longer be enjoyed by these students. These tuition reductions should be in proportion to the loss of educational quality received, and the absence of significant resources such as labs, computer software, equipment, etc. The terms of this petition will be considered met only once all affected students have received fair and sufficient refunds, as well as reimbursement for any travel expenses or other financial commitments that resulted from the University's gross lack of communication and regard for their student body.
