Walden University changed their online education platform from Blackboard to Canvas as of December of 2022. Before this, assignments were due for EST at 1:59 DAY 4. For all other timezones it was Day 3; CST 12:59, MST 11:59, and PST 10:59. 

Since the CANVAS change, the deadline is currently DAY 3 for all, with 11:59 EST, 10:59 CST, 9:59 MST, 8:59 PST, Alaska 7:59, and Hawaii 6:59. 

No matter our individual commitment levels and time management abilities, we ask the IT team and University make it fair to all students in all Time Zones to have work due at midnight DAY 3, or DAY 4 be the standard for discussion posts, etc. 

As students, we chose the online platform at Walden, who claims to be "A Pioneer in Distance Learning for Over 50 Years" * which contradicts how out of sync this technicality is. 

If the change has impacted you in significant ways, please send an email (draft example below) to the office of the President, as well as signing this petition here. We also HIGHLY recommend you include your concerns within the end of class surveys where comments are read and reviewed.

Dear Office of the President,

The change to CANVAS has altered the due date time for assignments by two hours ahead of what I have been accustomed to. This has significantly impacted my schedule as I'm in (timezone). I have (work, kids, internship) hours and have been committed to the former timezone our University and staff have honored for years. There are a number of students at Walden who feel the same way I do. I appreciate your help and any ability you have to get this message to someone who can help consider the issue.
