As a passionate theatre student at Illinois Central College (ICC), I am reaching out to address a pressing issue that is affecting our theatre community: the current audition process for ICC's production of *Little Shop of Horrors*. Despite being a production representing our very own institution, the opportunity to audition for roles is being overwhelmingly dominated by non-students, which seems to marginalize and push aside the students these productions are meant to support.

Illinois Central College has always been a beacon for fostering artistic talent and providing students with a platform to showcase their hard work and skills. This has been a cornerstone of our educational experience. However, the present situation raises concerns about the fairness and transparency of the audition process. The sign-up slots for auditions have noticeably been filled primarily by individuals who are not currently enrolled in the college. While community engagement is important, the priority should be given to students whose tuition and commitment are integral to sustaining this program.

It is distressing to see the theatre program designed for students being potentially sidelined by outside influences. Many students, such as myself, have invested time, energy, and resources into honing our craft at ICC, only to find ourselves competing with more seasoned non-students who have greater experience and connections within the industry. This does not just impact our immediate ability to participate in productions but also hinders our growth, exposure, and professional development opportunities that are crucial during our formative college years.

We believe a fair and equitable solution could involve setting aside a significant portion of the audition slots for current ICC students. Another consideration could be organizing separate audition timings or requirements for non-students. By implementing these measures, ICC can foster a balanced approach that allows students to have a genuine shot at roles while still opening doors for community interaction and participation.

I urge the ICC Theatre Program and Administration to reassess the current audition procedures and ensure that productions such as *Little Shop of Horrors* truly reflect and benefit the students of ICC. Our education and cultural enrichment depend upon the ability to participate fully in such vital aspects of our college life.
