The Issue

The residents of Bowling Green, Kentucky, are facing an increasing and dangerous problem that demands immediate attention: speeding on Nutwood, Magnolia, and Covington streets. I have added a few more streets that was asked by a few mor people : Newberry street, Hampton, Cardinal Way, Ironwood, Broadview, Nottingham, Sherwood These streets, which serve as main thoroughfares for many families, have become synonymous with excessive speeding, especially after speed trailers are removed. The temporary relief provided by these trailers is unfortunately short-lived, and the streets revert to what can only be described as a racetrack.

This isn't just about inconvenience—it's about safety. Excessive speeding poses severe risks to our community. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were over 9,378 fatalities in 2018 due to speeding, representing more than a quarter of all traffic-related deaths. For a neighborhood bustling with children, pets, and elder residents, the threat is continuous and real. The introduction of a permanent solution is not merely advisable, it is crucial.

So, what can be done? We propose a multi-faceted approach:

1. **Installation of permanent speed deterrents**: Implementing speed humps or raised crosswalks, known to effectively reduce vehicle speeds, could serve as a long-term solution.

2. **Increase of visible law enforcement presence**: Regular patrols and enforcement of traffic laws can act as a frequent reminder to drivers about the importance of adhering to speed limits.

3. **Community awareness programs**: Conducting sessions to educate drivers on the risks associated with speeding would help foster a culture of safety.

As engaged citizens and taxpayers of Bowling Green, Kentucky, we believe in the power of collective action to foster a safe environment for all. The responsibility lies within our city officials to enact lasting change.

Please join us in urging local authorities to prioritize and address this urgent issue. Sign this petition to protect our streets, ensure safety, and reinforce the trust the community places in our decision-makers.
