The Issue
The daily journey to school from areas around Vartur Sarjapur Road has turned into an ordeal for our children, a matter that touches me deeply as a parent. My child attends one of the schools in this district, and each day, they endure a commute of 4 to 5 hours. What was once a manageable distance of around 5 km now sees students languishing in traffic for upwards of 3.5 hours. This is not just a number on a traffic report; it signifies hours of childhood spent stuck on congested roads instead of learning, playing, and growing.
On September 16th and 17th, 2026, the situation hit a critical point, with travel times from schools such as Inventure, Greenwood, The International School Bangalore (TISB), and Oakridge stretching between 2.5 to 3.5 hours. This kind of delay is not just inconvenient; it is devastating. Our children arrive home exhausted, unable to focus on homework or enjoy their evenings. Their health and education are being compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
The root of the issue lies in the inadequate road infrastructure on Vartur Sarjapur Road. The area has seen a significant increase in population and vehicular activity without proportional improvements in road capacity and traffic management. The current roadways are simply not equipped to handle this level of congestion, causing substantial bottlenecks and delays.
We call on the local government and urban planners to urgently expand and improve this road network. Specifically, road widening projects should be prioritized, alongside enhancements in traffic light management and signage. Dedicated school bus lanes and additional exits could also alleviate the peak hour congestion. Furthermore, developing an effective public transport system to ease private vehicle dependency could prove to be a long-term solution.
