Address the Escalating Housing Crisis in Connecticut and Across the Nation

The Issue

Connecticut, like many other regions in the United States, is facing an aggressive housing crisis. Over the years, the issue has only escalated, marked by extraordinary hikes in housing prices and a glaring lack of sufficient accommodation. Rent has increased by 11% in Connecticut between the years 2000 and 2017, while the median household income has inched forward at a mere 6% (Source: Connecticut Housing Coalition). This disparity is severely compromising our residents' living standards and pushing them towards an abyss of uncertainty and homelessness.

The national panorama isn't much brighter. Right now, there's a shortage of 7.2–12.0 million affordable and available rental homes for extremely low-income renters nationwide (Source: National Low Income Housing Coalition). These stark numbers are enough to underline the urgency of the matter.

We cannot stay passive. It's time that our policymakers not only acknowledge the housing crunch but also proactively address it with resilience and foresight. Now is the time to push for viable policies which can stimulate housing construction and keep the prices in check.

We call upon our legislators to make this issue their priority. Let's put an end to this crisis and start building a brighter future. Please sign this petition and stand with us in our fight.
