Sexual harassment is an issue that hits close to home for many in the Northshore School District. My partner, a transgender girl, has faced harassment at Timbercrest Middle School for months. Unfortunately, her story is not unique. Across middle schools in the United States, particularly within the LGBTQIAP2S+ community, countless students experience similar abuses.

Queer youth like my partner deserve a safe environment where their identities are respected and where they can learn without fear. Yet, their pleas for help are often dismissed by school officials, leading to feelings of isolation and vulnerability. This problem is pervasive and urgent: a 2022 report from the GLSEN National School Climate Survey found that 66.2% of LGBTQ+ students experienced sexual harassment. It's time for a change.

Northshore School District must take student claims seriously by implementing robust anti-harassment policies and accountability measures. This includes dedicated staff training, student workshops on respect and consent, and a safe reporting system that protects the victims' identities.

We urge Northshore School District to take immediate action. By fostering an inclusive and safe educational environment, we can prevent further harm and support all students in their pursuit of education and personal growth.
