As a Proportional Councillor and a resident of the beautiful areas of Deerness, Rietfontein, and Villieria, I am deeply connected with the local community, which is like a family to me. Over recent months, the escalating crime rates have greatly impacted our peaceful everyday lives. This petition seeks immediate action to address the rising crime threatening our community's safety and well-being.

Our neighborhoods were once havens of safety and tranquillity, where residents could go about their daily activities without fear. However, the current surge in criminal activities, including thefts and vandalism, is causing anxiety and distress among the local population. The situation has been exacerbated by the unattended building site at the corner of Mogg and Pierneef streets, near McDonald's, which has unfortunately become a hotbed for criminal elements.

We urge municipal authorities and local law enforcement agencies to take decisive and immediate steps to curb this menace. We propose increased patrols, enhanced surveillance, and improved street lighting to deter criminals and ensure public safety. Additionally, the building site must be secured immediately to prevent further escalation of crime linked to its current neglected state.
