Address noise pollution in Baie-D’Urfé

Address noise pollution in Baie-D’Urfé
The Issue
Residents of Baie-D’Urfé are facing a persistent challenge that is deeply affecting their health, sleep, and overall quality of life. The elevated noise levels in our community exceed widely recognized public health guidelines, creating an environment that is neither safe nor conducive to living well. Unfortunately, the City of Baie-D’Urfé continues to make decisions based on a flawed understanding of our current noise pollution problem.
In 2021, the City conducted a sound study under the abnormal conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, when traffic and activity levels were significantly reduced. This study served as the basis for noise regulation and management in the area. However, it is now clear that it does not accurately reflect the reality we are experiencing today. Since then, significant environmental changes have occurred, including land remediation projects and the removal of natural sound barriers, which have exacerbated the noise issues.
Despite these changes, updated studies have not been conducted, leaving us with outdated information that fails to protect the wellbeing of our residents. Our community deserves decisions grounded in accurate data and research reflective of our present circumstances.
According to a study by the World Health Organization, exposure to high levels of noise pollution can lead to serious health problems, including cardiovascular diseases, sleep disturbances, and an increased risk of chronic illnesses. With such risks, it is critical that our local government takes immediate action to reassess and address the root causes of noise pollution in our area.
We call on the City of Baie-D’Urfé and relevant municipal authorities to:
1. Commission an updated and comprehensive sound study that accurately represents current traffic and environmental conditions.
2. Implement measures to mitigate the effects of noise through modern urban planning solutions and technology.
3. Restore or establish natural sound barriers to shield residents from excessive noise.
Join us in urging the City to prioritize the health and quality of life of Baie-D’Urfé residents. Sign this petition to demand action for a quieter, healthier environment for all. Together, we can make a difference.
