Gender discrimination in healthcare impacts over 50% of women and their level of healthcare. It can be seen as medical profesionals dissmissing the symptoms or level of pain a woman feels or performing procedures without the consent of the patient (this is largely seen during childbirth). Phrases such as "you're just being emotional" or "it's just stress" dismiss the notion of there being something wrong. Going further, blaming the pain on weight or menstruation is both dangerous and shows how under-researched womens health is. In a Harvard Medicine Magazine interviewing Elizabeth Comens, the writer of All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us About Women’s Bodies and Why It Matters Today, she states “Our biology and our presentation of disease are extraordinarily different from men’s.”
