The issue

Residents and visitors in Portarlington are experiencing ongoing dust exposure from the unsealed, high-traffic road at Boat Road running alongside the Bellarine Caravan Park.

Numerous community members have reported persistent airborne dust affecting daily life, with particular concern for children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Several residents have described worsening respiratory symptoms and repeated asthma attacks during dry conditions.

Prolonged exposure to road dust can negatively impact air quality and respiratory health, especially where traffic is frequent and nearby dwellings and public spaces are continuously exposed.

We respectfully request that the City of Greater Geelong Council:

-Conduct a formal air quality and health impact assessment for this road
-Implement immediate dust mitigation measures (such as dust suppression and traffic management).
-Consider longer-term solutions, including sealing or alternative surface treatments, based on assessment findings
-Provide clear communication and a timeline for action.

This petition is not about inconvenience or preference — it is about protecting public health and ensuring community infrastructure meets appropriate safety and environmental standards.
