Address discrimination and harassment in housing

Address discrimination and harassment in housing
The Issue
For almost three years, I have faced discrimination and harassment from my leasing manager in Pleasanton, making what should have been a pleasant living experience anything but. This is more than just a personal grievance—it is a denial of basic rights and dignity that every tenant deserves. It is time to put a stop to this ongoing injustice, not just for myself, but for anyone who might be subjected to such treatment in the future.
My experience has been fraught with instances of bias and unjust treatment. From unfair lease terms to biased communication and unwarranted confrontations, the environment has become increasingly hostile. Unfortunately, I'm not alone. Many residents have reported similar concerns. According to a study by the National Fair Housing Alliance, one in four African American renters face discrimination based on race, and it doesn’t stop there.
The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and other housing-related transactions based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability. Yet, these violations continue to occur and often go unresolved.
To resolve this, I urge local authorities to implement stricter oversight and accountability measures for property management companies. This includes mandatory anti-discrimination training for personnel, regular audits to ensure compliance with the Fair Housing Act, and an accessible platform for tenants to report misconduct anonymously without fear of retaliation.
By signing this petition, you urge the City of Pleasanton and local housing authorities to take immediate action against housing discrimination and harassment. Together, we can create a safe, fair, and welcoming community for everyone. Please support this crucial cause by signing the petition today.
