Address Climate Change Vulnerability in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur
The Issue
I am a resident of Marihatag, Surigao del Sur, Philippines. Our community is increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We experience more frequent and severe storms, rising sea levels, and longer periods of drought. These changes threaten our homes, our livelihoods, and our way of life.
According to the Climate Risk Index 2020 by Germanwatch (source), the Philippines ranks as the second most affected country by extreme weather events in 20 years from 1999 to 2018. This vulnerability is not just an abstract concept; it's a reality that we live with every day.
Our local government needs to recognize this threat and take action now. We need comprehensive policies that will reduce our carbon emissions and help us adapt to these changes. This includes investing in renewable energy sources like solar or wind power; implementing stricter regulations on deforestation; improving infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events; providing support for farmers affected by changing weather patterns.
We cannot wait for another disaster before we act on climate change. The time for action is now.
Please sign this petition urging local authorities in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur to address climate change vulnerability immediately.
