The Issue

Today, I stand before you to emphasize the urgency of addressing these issues and raising Awareness to foster a culture of Respect, Empathy, and safety in our schools. Why Awareness Matters: Awareness is the first step towards change. When we bring the realities of Bullying, Self-Harm, Physical assault and suicide awareness into the open, we can break the cycles of silence that allows it to persist. Awareness encourages students to speak up and to speak out, Educators to intervene, and communities unite against behaviors that harm our children.

Bullying is not just a momentary act of Unkindness. Bullying whether verbal, physical, or online, is not simply a "childhood behavior" to be brushed aside. It is a growing problem that affects students and their sense of safety. According to The National Center For Education Statistics shows that victims of bullying and physical assault are at high risk for suffering from anxiety, depression, and even self harm and suicide. We cannot ignore these realities. Physical Assault within school grounds is even more alarming to this very day.

A Safe place for learning has become a source of fear. It is our responsibility to ensure that every child feels safe walking into their classroom every day. Let us be clear: Bullying is not just a phase or rite of passage. It is a persuasive problem that can cause long-term damage to mental health, leaving victims feeling helpless, worthless and invisible. In some Studies and cases, even bullies themselves face increased risk of guilt, unresolved emotions, or troubled personal lives. This cycle of harm affects not just individuals but entire families and communities.
