The Issue

My name is Rashid Flonnory, and I’m a senior at The John Dickinson School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. I am a proud Black African American student, athlete, and leader who has worked hard to make my school a better place. Unfortunately, I have recently faced unfair treatment, bias, and disciplinary actions that have left me feeling disrespected and unheard.

This issue has deeply affected my mental and emotional well-being. I’ve always been proud to represent my school — as a leader, athlete, and role model for younger students. I’ve worked hard to build positive change at The John Dickinson School, creating initiatives to bring people together and showing what it means to lead with respect and integrity.

It's incredibly disappointing to find myself in a situation where my contributions are disregarded due to a lack of understanding and bias. Students like me who give their all to their schools deserve to be treated with fairness and respect. At the heart of our educational institutions should be an unwavering commitment to equity and justice, and I am asking for your help to ensure that this vision becomes reality.

I call upon the administration of The John Dickinson School and the Red Clay Consolidated School District to take immediate and proactive steps to address the issues of bias and unequal disciplinary actions. This includes implementing regular sensitivity and bias training for faculty and staff, establishing a transparent review process for disciplinary actions, and creating open forums where students can voice their concerns safely and anonymously.

We need to work together to foster an environment where every student feels valued and supported. Schools should be places of learning, growth, and inclusion—not spaces where discrimination and unfairness are allowed to persist.

Your signature on this petition can be the catalyst for change needed to make our school a fairer place. Let's come together as a community to demand the respect and equality that every student deserves. Please sign this petition to show your support for creating a better future for all students at The John Dickinson School.
