I am a high school kid in NYC. My school is incredibly antisemitic and my school ignores it. The chancellor of the NYCDOE has stated that all NYC High schools will teach about the Holocaust and that hasn't happened. Whether it's individual schools or the DOE, it is the job of the DOE to make sure all students are safe and feel safe, and they have failed at this. They have lied to the city about protecting ALL students and lied about teaching the Holocaust.

Antisemitism in schools creates a hostile environment for Jewish students, leading to fear, isolation, and emotional distress.  A new 2024 report by ADL (Anti-Defamation League), shows an 110% increase in  antisemitic incidents since last year. Since Oct 7 massacre there has been 118 reported antisemitic incidents. Most are not reported for various reasons. This could be not wanting more trouble, being scared, or the school not doing anything and/or making it worse, etc.

We demand immediate action from NYCDOE to address antisemitism and implement consequences for students and teachers who are antisemitic and for antisemitism that is ignored. We also call for the chancellor to make good on his word and make sure there is Holocaust education across all high schools as promised and ensuring strict policies against hate speech are enforced.
