Address academic placement fairness

The Issue

For far too long, students like me have struggled with an academic system that does not take into account the individual struggles and efforts of each student. As a student who has consistently struggled with math, I've worked tirelessly throughout the year to improve my performance, only to find myself placed in set 3. This placement not only demoralizes me but makes me question my chances of passing. Similar injustices are seen across our school, where students who have studied diligently throughout the academic year often end up in placements that do not reflect their effort or potential.

It is essential to recognize that the current placement system, based largely on singular assessments and standardized processes, does not always capture a student's true capability or hard work. Many students, regardless of their hard work, get categorized unfairly, often due to factors beyond their control, thus impacting their educational journey and future prospects.

Research from various educational institutes suggests that a more holistic approach that considers continuous assessment, teacher feedback, and student participation is much fairer and results in more accurate representations of a student's skills and dedication.

We are calling for a reevaluation of the academic placement process in our schools. We propose an approach that values continuous assessment and considers individual progress, rather than solely relying on standardized test results. This would enable students to be placed in groups that truly reflect their dedication and hard work.

Sign this petition to help us convince educational authorities to implement a fairer, more equitable system that gives every student a chance to succeed based on their true potential and effort. Together, we can create a positive change in our education system that rewards hard work and perseverance above all else.
