Add “Wheelchair user” option on ride share apps

Add “Wheelchair user” option on ride share apps

The Issue

I wanted to share a suggestion for PickMe, HelaGO, and other ride share companies that would help a lot of disabled passengers. As a frequent user of ride share services, I have encountered numerous challenges when trying to book a ride that accommodates my wheelchair.

Currently, most ride share apps do not offer an option for passengers to indicate that they use a wheelchair or have mobility issues. This oversight leads to a frustrating experience where drivers, unaware of the passenger's needs, may not be equipped or willing to provide the necessary accommodations. Many of my friends and others who depend on wheelchairs face similar struggles, causing delays and embarrassment when a vehicle arrives that isn't accessible.

By introducing a clear "Wheelchair User" or "Disabled Passenger" option during booking, ride share companies can not only enhance the experience for disabled passengers but also prepare drivers to better serve their clients. This simple addition would provide essential information to drivers before they accept a ride, ensuring they are adequately equipped or aware of the required accommodations.

Accessibility is a right, not a privilege. Everyone should have the ability to travel comfortably and without fear of potential issues arising from a lack of appropriate transport. This change is not only beneficial for passengers who require additional assistance but also helps streamline the service offered by ride share companies, creating a positive environment for all users.

Let's urge ride share companies like PickMe and HelaGO to take this important step toward inclusivity and accessibility. Join us in calling for the introduction of a “Wheelchair User” option in ride share app bookings. Sign this petition to make transportation equitable for all.
