Right now, over a century of entertainment history is locked behind a desktop layout.

While the official Variety app offers excellent, streamlined coverage of breaking news, the invaluable Variety Archives-a massive treasure trove of industry history, classic reviews, and legacy reporting dating back to 1905-remains completely exclusive to the website version.

For film historians, researchers, journalists, industry professionals, and avid entertainment fans, this artificial barrier is a major hurdle.

The current website interface is not optimized for quick, on-the-go mobile research. Trying to navigate decades of scanned pages, legacy box office data, and historical articles on a mobile browser is a clunky, frustrating experience. Pinching-to-zoom on ancient PDFs, dealing with slow page loads, and battling desktop menus on a small screen slows down critical research. We live in a mobile-first ecosystem, and our industry-standard research tools should reflect that.

By integrating the Variety Archives directly into the existing app interface, users could seamlessly jump from today's breaking festival news straight into Hollywood history. It would add immensve value to a paid subscription, streamline workflows for working professionals, and properly preserve a legendary entertainment archive in a modern, accessible format.

What we are asking for specifically:

• Native Integration: A dedicated "Archives" tab within the official iOS and Android apps.
• Mobile-Optimized PDF Viewer: A fast, responsive reader built for swiping through vintage pages, with smooth-pinch-to-zoom capabilities.
• Advanced Mobile Search: The ability to filter archive results by year, decade, journalist, or specific publication type (Daily vs. Weekly Variety)
• Research Tools: A "Save to Collection" or bookmarking feature to organize historical articles for ongoing projects.
• Tablet Optimization: A full-screen layout designed for iPads and Android tablets to make reading vintage issues a premium experience.

We call on Co-Editors-in-Chief Ramin Setoodeh and Cynthia Littleton, alongisde the digital product team at Penske Media Corporation, to update the official app and grant subscribers mobile access to the Variety Archives. Give us the tools to research Hollywood's past as efficiently as we track its present.
